He started his career in a modest way and began by using his brother's kit. Like many players from Uttar Pradesh, Murtaza too began his career by training at the prestigious Lucknow Sports Hostel. He joined the hostel at 11 and learnt his trade there. Thereafter, Murtaza honed his skills at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) under the tutelage of Ventakesh Prasad & Chandrakant Pandit.
