Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla - Indian Fashion Designer

The Big Boys of Indian fashion, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla have captivated the world with their unique creations, pioneering along the way many an innovative idea and style in haute couture for the past twenty years.

Coming from different backgrounds with no training in fashion design, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla met each other in a Mumbai cafĂ© in late 1980s and decided to enter the fashion world with shawl designs. Soon they ventured in garments and have become the leading designers in the country. Abu-Sandeep are known for dressing India’s best known faces such as Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Dimple Kapadia, Parmeshwar Godrej as well as international personalities such as Dame Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Lindy Hemming and Sophie Marceau.. Their couture lines are sought after at many charitable events such as, the Art of Giving Charity, British Council’s Enduring Image Exhibition and Save the Children Charity. In 2000 at the launch of the book "A Celebration of Style", documenting their remarkable journey through the word of fashion, they established their trust fund to support woman and children afflicted by AIDS. Film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Rahul Khanna, Raveena Tandon and Sonali Bendre walked the ramp to help raise Rupees 41 Lakh for the cause.

Their foray into furniture with home accessories has been a huge success with the decoration of Amitabh Bachchan’s residence, Dimple Kapadia’s house in Mumbai and Nikhil and Shweta Nanda's palatial mansion in New Delhi. Abu Sandeep were awarded the 2003 Designer Wars Championship in London. This was an international competition where they contended with architects from all over the world. The duo redesigned the house of Mary Fessey and was voted best designers by a public poll. In December 2003 Abu Sandeep were presented with the National Award for best costumes for the film Devdas. They also designed costumes for Lajja in 2001 and Umrao Jaan in 2006. They are the first Indian designers to stock collections at the renowned Harrods, Knightsbridge, UK on the designer floor. 2005 saw Abu and Sandeep as Creative Directors for Lakme Fashion House.
